Swimmers Shoulder

Swimmers Shoulder can be very painful overuse injury and there are so many parts within the shoulder that can cause an issue and it becomes very common with Triathletes as one of their disciplines along with Cycling and Running. The pain can be local from the shoulder itself or it may radiate up into your neck and down your arm, causing issues with your sport, your training and your everyday life. Lower Back Pain

Triathletes are susceptible to Lower Back Pain due to the involvement of the three disciplines they do, Swimming, Cycling and Running and the intensity they place on their bodies in general, whether it be training or competing. Swimming sometimes in cold conditions, jumping onto a bike and Cycling for what can sometimes be hours in a position that places a pressure on their lower back and then into a Run that is an activity that involves repetitive stress and impact. Tight Glutes

The Gluteal Muscles comprise of three muscles which make up the buttocks: Gluteus Maximus, Gluteus Medius and the Gluteus Minimus. An inhibited muscle means that the muscle is not firing properly and a weak muscle indicates the muscle is firing normally, at TMS Well Being we can perform a prone hip extension test and also help identify any underlying issues causing the tightness in the Glutes and treat accordingly.

Tight Hamstrings

Tight Hamstrings whilst Cycling and Running come about generally when the Hamstrings shorten due to the position we sit on the bike with the knees bent sometimes for hours and the repetitive stress and impact we place on them during the transition into running after the bike and this is a common issue with several Triathletes. Deep Tissue Massage and Stretching by TMS Well Being of the relevant muscles will help eliminate this issue and going forward visits to the clinic as part of their training programme will help in the future.

Tightness of Calves

Calves are made up of three muscles, Gastrocnemius, Soleus and Plantaris and common types of issues with Triathletes are tight calves, pulled or strained calf muscles, these types of issues can be caused by weakness in that area or perhaps fatigue, TMS Well Being we are able to identify the issues within the muscle group and treat accordingly.

IT (Iliotibial Band) Syndrome

Iliotibial band syndrome is an overuse injury of the tissues located on the outer part of thigh and knee, it can causes pain and tenderness in those areas, especially just above the knee Iliotibial band syndrome is more common in runners and cyclists. The Iliotibial band is a thick band of tissue that begins at the iliac crest in the pelvis, runs down the outer part of the thigh, and crosses the knee to attach into the top part of the tibia or shinbone and helps stabilize the outside part of the knee through its range of motion.

Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar Fasciitis is thickening of the plantar fascia, a band of tissue running underneath the sole of the foot, the thickening can be due to recent damage or injury, or can be because of an accumulation of smaller injuries over the years. Plantar fasciitis can be painful and a number of factors can contribute to Plantar Fasciitis and the symptoms include pain in the bottom of your foot, especially at the front or centre of the heel bone, pain is usually worse when first rising in the morning. It can be caused by taking up a new form of exercise like running and one area TMS Well Being will look at in the very first instance is tight calves and Achilles tendons and work on these areas which in turn should limit that pain you might be experiencing.

DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness)
