Tightness Neck & Shoulders
When we start cycling for the first time, in fact even if we cycle on a regular basis one of the most common issues that TMS Well Being treats on a regular basis is neck and shoulder discomfort. The main area of tightness are in the Anterior Deltoids, Upper Trapezius Muscles which in turn creates tightness in the neck muscles, sometimes leading to headaches and neck pain that is really uncomfortable. At TMS Well Being we can help to eliminate these issues with some Deep Tissue Massage and Stretching that will in turn help make you’re cycling far more comfortable going forward.
Lower Back Pain
Although at TMS Well Being we do treat a lot of lower back pain in Cyclists, after treatment we are able to point them in the right direction to avoid this kind of overuse injury, it could be something as simple as the way in which the bike is set up, or the cliques on your shoes being in line.
Tight Glutes
The Gluteal Muscles comprise of three muscles which make up the buttocks: Gluteus Maximus, Gluteus Medius and the Gluteus Minimus. An inhibited muscle means that the muscle is not firing properly and a weak muscle indicates the muscle is firing normally, at TMS Well Being we can perform a prone hip extension test and also help identify any underlying issues causing the tightness in the Glutes and treat accordingly.
Tight Hamstrings
Tight Hamstrings whilst cycling come about generally when the Hamstrings shorten due to the position we sit on the bike with the knees bent, sat for a long time can alone cause tight Hamstrings, sat on a bike for hours on end will certainly create this common issue with cyclists. Deep Tissue Massage and Stretching by TMS Well Being of the relevant muscles will help eliminate the issue, post treatment, static stretching after time in the saddle will benefit the client going forward.
Tightness of Calves
Calves are made up of three muscles, Gastrocnemius, Soleus and Plantaris and common types of issues with cyclists are tight calves, pulled or strained calf muscles, these types of issues can be caused by weakness in that area, fatigue, your form or technique during cycling, at TMS Well Being we are able to identify the issues within the muscle group and treat accordingly.
IT (Iliotibial Band) Syndrome

The Iliotibial band is a thick band of tissue that begins at the iliac crest in the pelvis, runs down the outer part of the thigh, and crosses the knee to attach into the top part of the tibia or shinbone and helps stabilize the outside part of the knee through its range of motion.
